Saint Cynog's Church

June 12th 2011 St. Cynog Church Ystradgynlais celebrated its 150th year.

In 1861 the Church was rebuilt on the site where it stands today and in order to mark that occasion 5 local schools were invited to design their own contributions depicting the history and heritage of the area.

The children’s work was displayed along the windowsills of the Church. The schools were Cwmtwrch, Cynlais, Glanrhyd, Penrhos and Ynyscedwyn and the Church was open to view the exhibition on the week of 13th to 18th June, with many visitors coming inside the church to see the displays.

On 12th June, the 150th anniversary of the reopening of St. Cynogs, the Bishop John of Swansea and Brecon took the Service at 10.00am and in the evening there was a concert given by the aptly named St. Cynog Celebratory Choir. This choir totalling eighty-four members had been formed from two local choirs and friends from other choirs who amalgamated to create one choir for this special occasion. And in honour of this event a special song was commissioned for the evening.

There was a second chance to hear the choir in a repeat concert held two weeks later on 25th June.
